Do copy machines have lasers in them? the green light?
Posted on February 6th, 2010 by admin
At work, I use a cop machine or there is one in the copy room and one in the middle of the hallway. So whenever, I go past the copy machine in the hallway, some one is using it. There is a very strong green laser light through the crack. I think it is ridicoulous that there is not a cover over the edge of the copy machine. Also, when I have to use it, the light appears right before the lid is closed. I think it should start once the lid is down since it is dangerous. My eyes start to hurt after I use the copy machine or go past the one in the hallway. Now, I refuse to go down that hallway and close my eyes when using the copy machine. Thank you for all your advicee because the last thing I need is to be legally blind for 8 dollars an hour. I am too young to be blind.
there are no machines that emits dangerous levels of illumination weather laser or scattered (regular) light
some photocopiers use green lights while some use regular white lamps they are a bit bright
of course if you stare at them on the long haul it could damage your eyes
however sometimes there are equipments like microwave ovens…that have broken parts
these could be dangerous
unless the photocopier has broken parts like lids or other shielding parts there should be no dangerous levels of radiation of any kind.
also it could be that you are more sensitive to light
some people have a much lower pain threshold either for sound, light…
talk to your doctor next time you visit
check that your retina functions properly by getting big in the dark and contracting in bright light, compare with friends.
also ask to be transferred to another function

The photo copy machine will use a tungsten halogen lamp, probably a linear one, to give the light for the copying process. It is bright but it,s not a laser. If you want to find a laser in your office look in the laser printer and the CD rom on your computer, both are shielded to prevent eye damage.

The green light in a COPIER is not a laser. the light you speak of is the Source Light, and is designed to produce a very high contrast field to copy of the source material to the printer drum. it is GREEN because that is the color the photochemicals on the print drum work best at. green is ALSO the color that your eyes are most sensitive to.
iI a COPIER ONLY machine, there is no laser.
in a multi-function machine (printer/copier/scanner/fax) the laser is hidden WAY down in the bowels of the machine, and is a VERY low output. it has about the same power as those little laser pointer cat toys.
YOU are being WAY overly sensitive. neither machine is going to harm you in any way.
