Please I have a canon copier ir3170c and it always gives me this error e000020-01a8?

This error occurs often I have tried changing the yellow developer you unit but it still comes even after clearing the error it occurs again
Please I will like to know what causes the error and possible solution

take out the drum….if you look inside up above where the drum goes you will see a sensor..this gets toner on it..the sensor reads the patches the m/c puts on the drum for quality control..(the yellow patch gets read first hence the -01 part of the code ..02=cyan 03=magenta 04=black)
There is also a sensor that sits to the left of the dev units ..
take off the left cover ,take out the fax board if you have one..the sensor is behind a black plastic cover..
remove one of the toner for easier access (black is best as it is bigger)

I want to use my canon copier as single color printer say magenta. As many color printer uses devoloper in its catridge. Is there any color laser printer that does not use devoloper, use only toner?

Not quite sure what you’re after, but all laser printers have a developer component of some kind that is used to create the prints. Some printers use a separate developer from the toner where the toner is added to the developer as needed to keep the proper saturation and the developer needs to be replaced periodically as it wears out and breaks down over time. Other color printers use a mono-component toner that uses toner that has built into it developer properties so that a separate developer component and module is not necessary. The latter is the most common. Most all HP printers I know of use the mono-component toner and cartridges that are replaced as a whole cartridge when the toner runs out, and I’d think that most all Canon printers would be the same, but there may be some that are the two-component type.

Hopefully that answers your question. If not, I’d need a little more clarification as to what you’re looking for.

I purchased some time ago a Canon all-in-one multifunction copier (printer/copier/scanner). I have never had any real problems with printing and photocopying. However, I have always had problems with scanning. At first I could scan a photo about one time out of ten. Now I cannot scan at all. I always get an "error" message, to the effect that probably my scanner is not connected to the pc with an error number. The make is a PIXMA MP210. Anyone experiencing same problems, or anyone able to help please. Would appreciate any advice. Thanx

I use a Pixma 310. It gave me an error message "printer is undergoing maintenance". I contacted support by email (see your manual). The response was quick and accurate. The solution involved removing the ink cartridges, and reinstalling them.
Btw, if you’re out of color ink, you can still use black if it tells you that you can’t, by pressing the reset button for 5 seconds. Thumbs up to both the product and Canon support.
