Which ruined more clothing over the years: toner from copiers, or the ink from mimeograph machines?

Those who remember the mimeograph machines, I’m wondering which machine is responsible for more ruined clothing, copiers or the MIME.

the mime is bad

Wht do most FAX machines still have attached (annoying) phones and phone cradles?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

I have never seen anyone use an attached fax-phone EVER in an office or home situation. What’s the point of having a phone attached to the fax machine? If I want to make a fax, I use the fax machine. If I need to make a voice call, I have a cell phone or my land-line. These silly things are similar to the equally annoying air-phones on airlines…never seen anyone use one.

some people do not have their fax set to auto receive. in those cases, you initiate the call as a normal voice call, and notify the party on the other end that you need to send a fax and wait for the tones to start. also if you suspect that the receive fax is on a "shared" line, it is only polite to check to see if a person answers the phone instead before sending the tones.

Using Digital Camera to take pictures of Documents, instead of using scanner/copier?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

I have a special project I am in charge of for work. The process involves reviewing Medical Records and taking copies of the pages I need. The Records are bound so getting the 5 pages I need from a 50 page document is cumbersome. To date, I have been marking the pages I need and then photocopying them. I have the opportunity to expand this project to many other institutions, but don’t want to spend several thousand dollars for a copier for each place. The desktop scanners I have looked at are too slow and would require use of PC or Laptop onsite. I was thinking maybe taking digital pictures of the documents was the answer. I can get big memory cards (because we usually need copies of 500 – 2000 documents at a sitting), take the camera and any necessary tri-pod with me. Does anyone have any ideas about this process or recommendations for type of camera or equipment that would help?
Cant use a sheet feeder because pages are bound. Pages can not leave the work site so Kinkos wont work. I would be open to using some type of flatbed scanner if it could scan directly to a memory stick or hard drive (no Computer or Laptop required).

the solution to this problem requires the use of a copystand. It is relatively cheap and easy to setup and was and still is a relavent way to copy oversized documents. Refering to the diagram below two lights are placed at either side of the document to minimize shadows. The camera is placed at a 90degree angle above the document and the lights. The use of a macro or micro lens is a plus but not necessary. However I would suggest buying a auto sheet feed scanner such as the one below, canon also makes some good ones. This is the best way to deal with having to scan thousands of images.

I have a PictBridge Dell Photo 944 copier and fax printer, the cellophane tape has come off can’t get it on.

Anyone know of a place I can take it to get fixed? It’s almost new and the problem is minor. I once knew of a shop in Hyde
Park, but I have forgotten exactly where. I live in the Chicago area, so Chicago Yahoo folks please HELP!
I am talking about the plastic strip that gos horizontally across the the machine. When I turn it on it just slams to the other side with a loud bam!
I understand that, but it is more than a printer, it is also a fax machine and copier. I have several printers, and that’s all THEY DO, I wanted this one fixed cause it does it all. Thanks anyway for your answers.

The part you are describing is the carraige timing strip. Look on the ends of the strip, it should have a square hole on each end. If it does you can reattach it by using a flashlight and forceps. If the hole is not there then the timing strip is damaged and your machine is now a large paper weight. Look for copier/printer repair in the yellowpages, I am sure there is someone in the Chicago area who will come out and look at the machine.

Where can I get a good fax machine ?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

The department where I work has a fax machine already. Its a brother MFC 4350 machine which came for $ 700.

I need to know any good multi function( fax*printer*copier ) laser machines for about the same amount or so.

Any ideas any1. Let me know ?

I would get one of those all-in-one machines, which can copy, scan, and fax. I own a Hewlett-Packard 5510. This machine was bought at Office Depot for $140. It is an excellent machine, and I would highly recommend it for use with your computer. If you need a fax machine only, You can shop Office Depot, or other similar stores. They sell for as low $75.

which is the best laser color printer with photo copier and scanner and fax(optional)? what is its cost?

canon or xerox would definitely be the market leaders in this field. But the products will come with a price for the brand. You can get good deals for HP products. Laser color can be bit expensive in anyways. Why not try out inkjet?
